Congressman Rob Bishop (UT-01) announced today that the conference committee for the transportation bill has agreed upon final legislation. The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21^st Century Act (MAP-21) will likely be voted on in the House tomorrow.  Congressman Bishop served on the conference committee, which was charged with finding common ground between the House and Senate versions of the legislation. 

Congressman Bishop issued the following statement about the report:

“This bill addresses the critical transportation needs of this country and will lead to jobs for thousands of Americans.  While this legislation isn’t perfect, I’m pleased the House prevailed on many important provisions, including elements that will help streamline the process for approving and constructing transportation projects.  It was also a big win that the Land and Water Conservation Fund was left out of this bill, ultimately receiving no funding.  I am also glad that both the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) and Secure Rural Schools (SRS) programs were extended for one more year. This extension will continue to help public lands states and communities that are deprived of property tax revenue as we continue to work toward finding long-term solutions to address their needs.

“I hope that the Senate recognizes the beneficial outcome of this process and takes up other pro-growth and pro-jobs legislation already passed by the House that are currently pending in its chamber.”
