In 2019, the United States became a net exporter of oil and natural gas. This kind of world leadership is what Members of the Congressional Western Caucus support and strive for. Oil and natural gas will remain key tenants of our economy and energy portfolio while helping supply reliable and affordable energy. We support domestic energy development to ensure environmental responsibility, cultivate local economies, and produce high-paying jobs. Restricting domestic energy production only drives up energy costs and increases foreign dependency from suppliers like OPEC and Russia.

In 2019, the oil and gas industry contributed $1.7 trillion to communities across the U.S. and supported 11.3 million jobs. That same year, states received a total of $1.81 billion from mineral revenues and used those funds to support education, public safety, environmental restoration, coastal resiliency, and other critical programs. Oil and gas development not only supports programs in rural communities, but it also supports major conservation efforts at the federal level, including the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
