At a recent hearing on the "American Energy Initiative" Congressman Cory Gardner (R-CO) grills witnesses on utility rate increases being seen all over the country and talks about how energy regulations hurt low income families the most.

Highlight from Gardner’s closing statement:

“This is one of the frustrating parts of this entire debate. Nobody doubts that we can do a better job when it comes to energy efficiency. There is no doubt about that. Nobody doubts that we have incredible opportunities in new energy. But the problem is when we have regulations that comes down from agencies that increase costs on developing energy, on consuming energy - it hurts our economy and it hurts the people who are most vulnerable in our society. That seems to get left out of this entire debate. The people who are affected disproportionately are poor and low income because it hurts the economy and their ability to lift themselves and their family out of the position that they’re in.”
