Congressman Cory Gardner (R-CO) is pointing to a newly released report on the exportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which shows a positive impact on the economy, as a basis for allowing the sale of more American made LNG overseas.     

“This is about staying competitive in a global economy by selling American made products overseas, which in turn creates more good-paying American jobs,” Gardner said.  “For the past few decades we have been importing most of our energy, but now we’re in a position to turn that around.  We are fortunate to have an abundant supply of natural gas, and if we don’t start exporting more of it, we’ll be missing a huge opportunity.” 

The report was commissioned by the Department of Energy, and Gardner hopes it will encourage the Obama Administration to allow more LNG exports.  In September, Gardner lead a bipartisan letter asking Energy Secretary Steven Chu to open up export opportunities for LNG, saying that it would create new jobs, help balance our trade deficit, and contribute to the stabilization of world gas markets.
