Rep. Scott Tipton (CO-03) issued this statement following the announcement that Harris Sherman, U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary for Natural Resources and the Environment, will be stepping down after four years.

“I had the opportunity to work closely with Under Secretary Harris Sherman this past year to bring the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree from the White River National Forest in my district to our nation’s capital. It was a great honor for Coloradans to showcase our state’s natural beauty by giving the gift of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree—the People’s Tree—to our nation last year, and I commend Under Secretary Sherman for the role he played in making it happen.

“Harris Sherman has been a dedicated public servant and his commitment to preserving our open spaces and fostering a healthy natural environment is without question. While we have not always seen eye-to-eye on how best to achieve this, whenever I have had a concern, Under Secretary Sherman has always been engaged, responsive and forthcoming with information. I am hopeful that his successor continues in this tradition, and is willing to work together to address the issues facing our public lands, including improving forest health and respecting state water law.”
