Western Caucus Members Call on BLM to Reverse Colorado Land Withdrawal

Biden Administration proposal would remove 1.6 million acres from future oil and gas leasing

Washington, D.C.- Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) led Members of the Western Caucus in sending a letter to Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director Tracy Stone-Manning urging her to rescind the proposed withdrawal of 1.6 million acres from future oil and gas leasing, as announced in August.

“BLM’s proposal to withdraw 1.6 million acres of public lands in Colorado from future oil and gas leasing would be a devastating blow to our nation’s efforts to re-establish energy independence,” said Chairman Newhouse. “At a time when far too many Americans are struggling with rising energy prices, the federal government should be encouraging energy development, not restricting its potential. The Western Caucus will continue to advocate for both energy independence and the multiple-use mandate on our federal lands across the west.”

Signers of the letter are Reps. Lauren Boebert (CO-03), Ken Buck (CO-04), Doug Lamborn (CO-05) and Dan Crenshaw (TX-02). Groups supporting the letter include the Western Energy Alliance and the U.S. Oil and Gas Association.
