MESA—Today, Representative Matt Salmon (AZ-05) released the following statement in response to the inquiry from U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-1), Chairman of the Congressional Subcommittee on Energy and Power, to Bob Perciasepe, Acting Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), seeking more information about EPA’s proposed rule regarding the Navajo Generating Station (NGS):
 
“I appreciate Chairman Whitfield’s inquiry into the EPA’s proposed rule regarding the Navajo Generating Station.  This $1.1 billion rule would impact the entire Arizona economy, and the costs - higher energy rates, higher water rates, and billions in lost economic benefit across the entire state – far outweigh EPA’s negligible objective.  As Chairman Whitfield’s letter reiterates, the Federal Government’s own study questions whether or not the mandated controls would have any perceptible improvement above the Grand Canyon.”
 
“Further, EPA owes it to the people of Arizona to fully consider, through thorough analysis, the economic damages the agency’s rule would inflict before proceeding any further with implementation of their proposal.”
