Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah), a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, released the following statement after the announcement from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to delist the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act:

"I applaud the announcement from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to delist the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The announcement comes less than three months after I joined a bipartisan group of 72 Members of Congress in urging the USFWS to delist the gray wolf from the ESA in the Continental United States. The letter argued that the gray wolf is not an endangered species, and that management of the wolf populations is best handled by the states, and not wildlife officials in Washington."

"On a personal note, having grown up farming, ranching and hunting in Cache Valley, I understand just how detrimental wolves could be to these activities and even threaten the very livelihoods of farmers and ranchers throughout the west." 

"The Service’s decision to delist gray wolves only makes sense, and is long overdue. Private landowners, local governments and states should not be subjected to federal wolf listings when wolf populations are thriving, up as much as 300 percent in some areas. I am confident that our wildlife managers in Utah and throughout the West are fully capable of managing the wolf populations in a way that benefits all."
