Today, the House of Representatives voted in favor of a transfer of 100 acres of land from the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to the city of Fruit Heights in Davis County. Co-sponsored by Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah) and Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah), the Fruit Heights Land Conveyance Act, H.R. 993, is Stewart’s first piece of legislation to pass the House. The transferred land will be used by the city of Fruit Heights for a much needed expansion of the Kaysville cemetery.

“I am very pleased with the passage of the Fruit Heights Land Conveyance Act, as it fulfills a great need in the city of Fruit Heights,” Stewart said. “With over 66% of Utah’s land controlled by the federal government, it’s nice to see a small portion of this land being given back to the city for community use. I applaud Congressman Bishop and other members of the Utah Delegation for fighting for Utah’s land. I am grateful that Senator Hatch has also introduced similar legislation in the Senate, and hope that the Senate will act quickly to pass this much needed bill.”
