American Energy is Back in the Driver’s SeatBy Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11) Energy powers more than just our economy – it fuels every part of our lives. Picture a typical morning in America. You wake up to an alarm clock. Flip on the lights. Start the coffee maker. Grab the milk from the fridge and cook breakfast on the stove. Maybe you turn on the news or start a podcast. The newspaper arrives – delivered by a car running well before the sun came up. You hop in the shower, brush your teeth, and drive to work. What do all these moments have in common? Energy. Of course, an average morning in every household looks different, but the point remains. From the most minor parts of our daily routines to the foundation of our national security, energy powers our lives and helps protect us from foreign adversaries who wish us harm. And none of this is possible without the people, resources, and companies working tirelessly to ensure our energy is abundant, reliable, and affordable. Unfortunately, for four years, the Biden-Harris Administration took an all-of-government approach to wage war on the American energy industry. From one energy policy disaster to the next, the previous administration pandered to woke environmental extremists over the needs of middle-class Americans and the interests of those working to keep the lights on in America. They canceled the Keystone XL pipeline, halted new oil and gas producing leases on federal land and waters, drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), implemented the Natural Gas Tax, and much more. These policies hurt everyone – including the hardworking men and women in regions like the Permian Basin, the most prolific oil and gas-producing region in the world, which I have the honor of representing. The good news? The American energy industry, and the people behind it, stayed resilient. They persevered and delivered for the American people despite the red tape imposed on them. Thankfully, those days are behind us. Since Republicans took control of the House and Senate, and President Trump returned to office, we’ve prioritized rolling back the red tape and restoring American energy dominance through commonsense policies that benefit every American. Most recently, we did that through the One Big Beautiful Bill. This legislation is a major win for American energy dominance – ensuring affordable energy for all American consumers, creating thousands of jobs across the country, and putting our country back on the path to energy independence. It reverses Biden’s radical Green New Deal agenda by rescinding the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and repealing and phasing out the wrongfully named ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ (IRA) subsidies. It brings certainty back to American producers by eliminating the natural gas tax for 10 years. It bolsters our national security by appropriating funds to repair and begin refilling our dangerously low SPR. This legislation also secures our grid and ensures America’s global leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) by creating new investments in reliable energy generation. It reinstates quarterly onshore oil and gas leases and mandates at least 30 lease sales in the Gulf of America over the next 15 years. The list goes on, but the bottom line is clear: the One Big Beautiful Bill cuts Biden-era red tape, incentivizes energy production, supports energy workers, and supports a pro-energy America. |
