House Passes Maniilaq Association Land Transfer Introduced by Rep. Young

WASHINGTON, DC – Today the House of Representatives passed H.R. 443, as amended in the Senate, by a vote of 410 to 5. This legislation was originally introduced by Alaskan Congressman Don Young and will direct the Department of Health and Human Services to transfer three parcels of federal land in Kotzebue, Alaska from the Indian Health Service to the Maniilaq Assocation. The land transfer will allow Maniilaq to significantly enhance their health and social services operations. The Indian Health Service has expressed its support for the bill’s passage.

Rep. Noem Pleased with Corps' Rejection of Additional Missouri River Water Releases

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Kristi Noem issued the following statement after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rejected requests to increase water releases from the Missouri River to aid in navigation of the Mississippi River. In a letter, Assistant Secretary of the Army Jo-Ellen Darcy stated that the Corps would take action to help address the navigation issues on the Mississippi River but that increased water releases from the Missouri River would be beyond its authority.
