Washington, D.C. (November 14, 2014)– Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5682, to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline with a bipartisan vote of 252-161.  The bill would put an end to the lengthy and unnecessary delay of the project that has gone on for over six years. Congressional Western Caucus Co-Chairs Steve Pearce (NM-02) and Cynthia Lummis (WY-At Large) released the following statements in response to the passage of the bill:

“After six years of stalling by this administration and Senate democrats, it is time for the President and Harry Reid to remove politics from the decision and approve the Keystone XL Pipeline,” said Chairman Pearce. “This bill will provide shovel ready jobs for Americans and will increase American energy independence while strengthening our national security. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to act on this important piece of legislation before the end of this Congress.”

“The Keystone XL pipeline has met all the requirements this administration has demanded and more, so the buck now stops at the White House,” said Chairman Lummis.  “This vote, this bill, and building the pipeline is a real no-brainer.  It would mean stronger energy security for the nation, a boost for local economies, and a positive, lasting economic ripple effect throughout the country.  It’s time for President Obama and Harry Reid to suspend for one moment their anti-economic growth agenda, listen to Obama’s own State Department, and get this pipeline constructed.”
