House Bill Curtails Federal Water Grab

Washington, D.C. (May 12, 2015) – Today the U.S. House passed the Regulatory Integrity Protection Act of 2015, which orders the EPA to withdraw its Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. The bill directs EPA to issue a new rule based on input from the public, states, and stakeholders and consistent with Supreme Court precedent. The rule, if left unchecked, would lead to a massive seizure of states’ waters throughout the country.

Western Caucus Chairman Cynthia Lummis (WY-at large) issued the following statement commending passage of the bill:

“This bill is one of the many prongs of attack against the WOTUS rule’s threat to states’ water management,” said Chairman Lummis. “The rule is another attempt by federal agencies to expand their authority over our single most precious natural resource, water, and do so at states’ expense. Unopposed, the rule would overturn long-standing and expert state management in favor of newly extended federal jurisdiction over even the smallest streams and ponds. We must fight this federal seizure or it will disrupt private water rights, water distribution, and local conservation efforts, hiking costs for families and businesses along the way.”
