Washington, D.C. (June 4, 2015) – Today in a press release the EPA announced a draft assessment conducted at the request of Congress to study the potential impacts to drinking water resources from hydraulic fracturing.

Western Caucus Chairman Cynthia Lummis (WY-at large) issued the following statement in response:

“I appreciate that the EPA’s own assessment shows, to no one’s surprise, that states have been successfully regulating hydraulic fracturing,” said Chairman Lummis. “The question has never been whether we should regulate hydraulic fracturing. The question is who should be doing so, and the states have the proven track record over not just the last few years of booming production but the last few decades. States are more nimble, innovative, and responsive, which is necessary to keep up with ever-changing technologies as we strive towards an energy-secure America. The notion that the federal government will be more effective than the states is baseless, particularly in those states on the cutting edge.”
