Congress Votes to Stop EPA Rules that Raise Energy Prices
Washington, DC,
December 1, 2015
Washington, D.C. (December 1, 2015) – Today a majority in the U.S. House voted on two separate bills to disapprove of both the EPA rule on Greenhouse Gas Emissions from New Power Plants and the EPA rule on Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Existing Power Plants. These rules, if left unchecked, would have serious impacts on energy prices for American families across the country. The rules would also, in effect, ban the construction of new coal-fired power plants. The resolutions of disapproval have already passed the Senate and now go to the White House.

In response, Western Caucus Chairman Cynthia Lummis (WY-At large) issued the following statement: “I am proud to join the Representatives and Senators who voted to stop these two EPA rules that are guaranteed to raise energy costs for American families, especially as the winter cold grows demand for energy to heat homes,” said Chairman Lummis. “Meanwhile in Paris, President Obama has been trying to sell a high-cost, low benefit plan and promising American taxpayer dollars to pay the bill. We need to ensure stable, affordable, and responsible energy for the American people to create jobs and grow our economy, not find ways to expand cost.” Western Caucus members also joined a letter in late November to oppose sending money to the United Nation’s Green Climate Fund.
