Today, Western Caucus Members applauded one of their own following a commanding performance by Rep. Ryan Zinke in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources at Zinke's Nomination Hearing to be President-elect Donald Trump’s next Department of the Interior Secretary.
Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) and Caucus Member Rep. Schweikert (AZ-06) issued the following statements in response to the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Nomination Hearing for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Department of the Interior Secretary, Congressman Ryan Zinke:
“As demonstrated by his tremendous performance today, Congressman Zinke will make an excellent Secretary of the Interior. I very much look forward to working with him on issues that impact the West and the nation at large. His commitment to involving state and local stakeholders as well as Congress is encouraging and a breath of fresh air after the last eight years of top down, heavy handed mandates from an administration more concerned with dictating that working with the people most affected by these policies. As Rep. Zinke expressed today before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, partisan politics are not his concern; what is best for the country is his highest priority. I am confident that his confirmation will be swift and I anticipate great successes working with the Department of the Interior knowing Rep. Zinke will be at the helm,” remarked Chairman Gosar.
Rep. Schweikert said, “Today’s hearing offered the American public a glimpse of what Westerners already know: Rep. Ryan Zinke is the ideal choice for Secretary of the Interior. Contrary to the outgoing Administration, where midnight rules and arrogance despite utter ignorance reigned supreme, Rep. Zinke’s dedication to thoughtful progress and stakeholder involvement at every step of the process will prove to be an invaluable asset to America and in particular, my home, the West.”
