Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) made the following statement after voting in favor of a revised version of the House Farm Bill - H.R. 2642, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act of 2013. The bill passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 216 – 208. “While this is not the process I would have preferred, today’s vote is a step in the right direction toward enacting longer-term farm policy. “I am especially disappointed we are sending a bill to a conference committee between the House and Senate without reforms to the nutrition title. The end-result of this strategy could be fewer savings than would have been achieved had we passed the original version of the House bill. “While this is neither a perfect bill nor the approach I would have taken, I remain committed to a long-term Farm Bill, and I am encouraged the process is moving ahead. I welcome more debate, and I look forward to the bill moving to conference.” |
