Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement after the House voted to send the Farm Bill to conference today:

"In Congress, we all have different definitions of perfect, but we must recognize our current agriculture policy is inefficient and outdated. Going to conference will allow a discussion about much-needed reforms to make our agriculture policy and food programs work better for the American people."

"Our farmers and ranchers need certainty to continue feeding our nation, and while Congress spent years bickering, our farmers and ranchers experienced droughts and floods, seriously jeopardizing their ability to put food on our grocery shelves. This is unacceptable, and I hope we finish this process quickly to ensure a safe and abundant food supply for all Americans."

Congresswoman Jenkins grew up on a dairy farm in rural Jackson County, and has been pushing for a long-term farm bill for more than two years. The last five-year farm bill expired on September 30, 2012.
