Amodei encourages Nevadans to make voices heard by USFWS and BLM

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today encouraged Nevadans to make their voices heard by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) during two important public comment periods.

Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today encouraged Nevadans to make their voices heard by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) during two important public comment periods.

“The proposed threatened species listing of the bi-state sage hen population and the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the greater sage hen have significant consequences for multiple use and represent really our first test for how we solve the larger sage hen problem throughout Nevada and the West,” said Amodei. “In the case of the bi-state, should the listing move ahead, it would designate 1.86 million acres as critical habitat, including federal, state, tribal and private lands in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral and Esmeralda counties in Nevada and Alpine, Mono and Inyo counties in California.

December 27, 2013is the deadline for public comment on the USFWS proposed listing of the bi-state sage grouse under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). A copy of the finding and additional information is available at http://www.fws.gov/nevada or by calling 775-861-6300.
