Today Congressman Kevin Cramer participated in a hearing of the Natural Resources Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee focused on job opportunities for veterans in the energy industry. The hearing featured business owners and veterans outreach specialists as witnesses, and examined how America’s veterans can serve a pivotal role in the energy renaissance.

“There is great synergy between the well of talent in our returning veterans and the immense hiring needs of our growing energy economy, in North Dakota and nationwide,” said Cramer. “Over 20,000 jobs in North Dakota are waiting to be filled. I will continue to find ways, either legislatively or through constituent services, to connect veterans to the employers who are eager to hire them.”

During his questioning, Cramer cited North Dakota Medal of Honor recipient Clinton Romesha as an example of a veteran who has gone on to a successful career in the energy industry at KS Industries.

Congressman Cramer has an active Veterans Advisory Board, made up of North Dakota veterans organization leaders who provide guidance on important issues for retired service members. Members of the board include Romesha, Brenda Bergsrud, Veterans Coordinator and Benefits Specialist with the North Dakota Department of Veteran Affairs, Lt. Colonel Davina French, Government Affairs Officer for the North Dakota National Guard, John Hanson, State Commander for the North Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Rusty Ouart, Purple Heart recipient, Warren Tobin, Department Adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans, and Lonnie Wangen, Commissioner of Veterans Affairs for the State of North Dakota.
