This week, Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) delivered the Congressional and Senate Western Caucuses’ weekly address. In his remarks, Congressman Gosar discusses specific regulatory actions taken by the Obama Administration which will devastate the Arizona economy. Specifically, he addresses halting the safe withdraw of Uranium in northern Arizona, new regulations which have the potential to shut down existing jobs related to air tourism over the Grand Canyon, and the development of new Utility Maximum Achievable Control Technique (MACT) regulations which would shut down coal powered plan Click here to watch the video Excerpts include: “My district is rich with natural resources and contains diverse climates that are conducive to many forms of energy generation, including traditional fossil fuel, hydro-electric, solar, and wind power.” “Though blessed with natural resources, rural Arizona suffers from high unemployment.” “President Obama and Secretary Salazar unveiled a plan in January to ban one million acres of uranium-rich land in Arizona for future uranium mining. This ban shows a clear indifference to the separation of powers, their true lack of understanding about the importance and use of facts and a desire to use divisive partisan politics to hinder job and energy creation.” “I strongly believe cautious development with strong oversight under federal statue strikes the careful balance between economic activity and environmental protection and so I oppose the proposed arbitrary withdrawal.” “It is expected that the MACT rule will destroy four permanent jobs for every 1 temporary job created. In the end complying with this rule will destroy 1.44 million jobs by 2020. We all want clean air and efficient energy, but this does not equate to the EPA wasting money and killing jobs as an attempt to make such goals mutually exclusive of one another. They are not.” “My land exchange bill will bring into federal stewardship 5,500 acres of high-priority conservation lands in exchange for 2,600 acres of national forest system land in the copper triangle in Southeast Arizona.” “Although this bill requires all existing environmental studies and rules be met and maintained, the US Senate is insisting upon duplicative studies which will cost precious time this project has been stalled for over five years already, and cannot afford any further delay. The Senate should vote on my house passed legislation immediately and get this project underway.” |
