Washington, D.C. (September 19, 2013) – Western Caucus Chairman Steve Pearce released the following statement today as we mark the fifth anniversary of the original permit application to begin construction on the Keystone XL Pipeline: “It’s not often that the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate agree on anything these days,” said Pearce.“However, both the House and Senate have passed legislation in support of the Keystone pipeline multiple times over the past few years. In addition to Congressional review, the Administration has conducted numerous environmental impact studies, all with the same conclusion: building and operating the pipeline would result in ‘limited adverse environmental impacts.’ The studies have been done and the risks have been deemed minimal. But for some reason, President Obama is still standing in the way. The President must realize that the Keystone XL Pipeline is more than just a pipeline, it is a lifeline for the American economy. It’s time to put 20,000 Americans to work. It’s time to build.” |
