Legislation authored by Congressman Mike Simpson addressing water issues in Idaho wilderness areas was passed by the House of Representatives today. H.R. 876, the Idaho Wilderness Water Resources Protection Act, authorizes and permits historical water diversions in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness Area and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area that existed before the wilderness designations. Similar legislation sponsored by Congressman Simpson was passed by the House during the 111th and 112th Congresses. Read more »

This legislation amends the Native American Veterans’ Memorial Establishment Act of 1994 to allow the National Museum of the American Indian to construct a memorial to Native Veterans on the museum’s grounds, which is on the National Mall. Current law authorizes a memorial inside the confines of the museum, but there is not sufficient space within the facility to construct a proper tribute to Native American Veterans. Read more »

Washington, D.C., Jun 14 - The House of Representatives today approved amendments authored by Congressman Doc Hastings to establish a Manhattan Project National Historical Park and to execute a land transfer for local economic development. WASHINGTON— The U.S. Department of Interior today announced that they will extend the public comment period for the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) proposed changes to the commercial oil shale regulations by an additional 30 days. Congressman Rob Bishop (UT-01), Chairman of the House Natural Resources Public Lands and Environmental Regulation Subcommittee, submitted a letter to the Department of Interior on May 22, 2013 requesting that they extend the comment period to 120 days versus the 60 that the Department of Interior initially offered. The House Appropriations Committee today passed the fiscal year 2014 Agriculture Appropriations bill. Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson is a member of the committee and once again offered an amendment to allow states to include fresh potatoes in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Washington, D.C. – Today two pieces of legislation cosponsored by Congressman Kevin Cramer were approved in a markup hearing of the House Committee on Natural Resources. The Grazing Improvement Act grants greater economic certainty to ranchers in western North Dakota by extending the longevity of grazing permits on federal lands and decreasing the wait period for permit renewals.
