Chairman LaMalfa Statement on Biden Administration’s Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling Ban

Chairman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) released the following statement following the Biden Administration’s action removing over 625 million acres from future leasing opportunities. The action impacts federal waters in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and parts of the Northern Bering Sea in Alaska.

“President Biden’s eleventh-hour ban on offshore energy development is a reckless move that puts America’s energy future at risk," said Chairman LaMalfa. "This political stunt will cost thousands of hardworking Americans their jobs, drive up energy costs for families, farmers, and industries already struggling with inflation, and make us more reliant on foreign countries for the resources we need. By weaponizing laws to block responsible domestic energy production, this administration is prioritizing radical activist demands over American workers, national security, and economic stability. Shutting down critical energy projects in the last few days of their administration is simply spiteful to the American people and an attempt to hamstring the next administration. In a few short weeks we will be working with a new administration to overhaul these policies so that we can strengthen our energy independence, lower costs for families, and create good-paying jobs here at home.”
