WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of the Interior's announcement of lease sale cancellations in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska:
 
"'Working like the devil to bring down gas prices.' That's the claim President Biden made to the American people," said Chairman Newhouse. "Yet, by once again cancelling future planned lease sales, the Biden Administration has not only ensured that our allies will continue to struggle with their energy needs at a critical time, but he has also guaranteed that these record-high gas prices for Americans are here to stay. Unfortunately, these conflicting messages are all-too-familiar, and the absence of oil and gas lease sales is seemingly the one constant we can rely on from this Administration – regardless of the consequences. I will continue to call on President Biden to reverse this decision, support American energy producers over foreign nations, and take actions that strengthen both our energy security and our economy."
