Chairman Newhouse’s Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) released the following statement in response to President Biden’s Joint Address to Congress:

“Tonight, President Biden spoke ad nauseam about “finishing the job,” not recognizing he has completely failed the job and the millions of Americans who count on him to lead our country.
He talked about the number of jobs he has created, ignoring how devastating his policies were to small businesses across the country, who have still not recovered from his totalitarian shutdown policies.
He claimed he’s left families more economically secure even as families across the nation are struggling to pay for housing, food, and other necessities due to skyrocketing inflation which has cost the typical household approximately $10,000 over the last two years.
He even had the gall to tout how far gas prices have dropped, ignoring how his anti-American energy policies raised them in the first place and that they’re still over a dollar more than they were when he took office, in spite of his politicization of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
He announced a proposal which would ensure construction materials such as copper and aluminum are made in America after banning mining in Northern Minnesota which is rich in copper-nickel deposits just last week.
He pointed to how climate change is causing catastrophic wildfires yet refuses to actively manage our forests which is the biggest risk factor for these fires.
Even though tonight’s speech indicated no accountability on the part of our president, his administration, or his party, the Western Caucus will not stop fighting to protect our values and defend the local communities we represent.
We support an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable and we’re working every day to deliver on those promises—failure is simply not an option.”
