WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, the Western Caucus Foundation hosted a winter policy roundtable and field tour in Las Vegas, Nevada, with over a dozen Western Caucus Members, congressional staff, and stakeholders.

Congressional Western Caucus Members, staff and stakeholders participated in a tour of the Hoover Dam to learn more about the dam's operations and hear about efforts to power the region. Western Caucus Members that participated in the tour included Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Executive Vice Chair Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), Rep. Mike Bost (IL-12), Rep. Celeste Maloy (UT-02), Rep. Burgess Owens (UT-04), Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05), Rep. Jim Baird (IN-04), and Rep. Mary Peltola (AK-AL).

Members also gained greater insight from the National Park Service at Lake Mead. Participants were able to learn about the importance of the lake, its history, and current challenges to the lake's ecosystem that are being navigated.

The following day, Western Caucus Members participated in a policy roundtable where congressional staff and stakeholders received updates from Chairman Newhouse (WA-04) and Senate Western Caucus Chair Cynthia Lummis (WY). Participants also learned about challenges to American rodeo events and the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in its 50th year as law.

To wrap up the trip, Chairman Newhouse (WA-04), Rep. Hageman (WY-AL), and Rep. Peltola (AK-AL) participated in a panel discussion with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation focused on issues with the ESA and the need to reform the law, conservation, and hunting throughout the United States.
