WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the heels of a meeting between the State of Alaska and Wal-Mart over the chain’s policy of only selling seafood that is certified as “sustainable” by the Marine Stewardship Council, Alaskan Congressman Don Young questioned fishery industry officials and scientists at a Natural Resources Committee hearing about the detrimental effects this certification process has on some domestic fisheries, including Alaskan salmon.

Young: House Passes Denali National Park Improvement Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 157, the Denali National Park Improvement Act, introduced earlier this year by Senator Lisa Murkowski and passed by the Senate in June 2013. Passing by voice vote, S. 157 now heads to the President’s desk for his signature. S.157 was introduced concurrently with Rep. Young’s H.R. 586, which passed the House Natural Resources Committee by unanimous consent earlier this summer.

Tipton Urges U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to Keep Leadville Hatchery Open

Scott Tipton (R-CO) is urging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to keep the Leadville Fish Hatchery open as the agency finalizes its strategic plan for the National Fish Hatchery System (NFHS). According to the USFWS, the agency is currently deliberating the plan which may affect some hatcheries and NFHS employees around the nation.
