WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1615, the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act, which prohibits the use of federal funds to ban gas stoves, and H.R. 1640, the Save Our Gas Stoves Act, which prohibits the Secretary of Energy from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing the proposed rule titled “Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Consumer Conventional Cooking Products.” These bills were led by Western Caucus Member Kelly Armstrong (ND-AL) and Western Caucus Vice Chair Debbie Lesko (AZ-08), respectively. “Gas appliances are at the center of many American households, especially in rural communities. They power our stoves, furnaces, water heaters, and fireplaces. Nearly 187 million American use natural gas because it is affordable, reliable, and safe,” said Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04). “Passing these pieces of legislation will protect Americans’ wallets, time, jobs, and freedom and put an end to the draconian rule proposed by the Biden Administration. It's time for the government to stop overregulating our lives and focus on solutions that will truly benefit the American people and our energy future. And that starts with them getting their hands off our stoves.” “The Biden administration is intent on weaponizing every aspect of the federal government to achieve its ideological goals,” said Rep. Kelly Armstrong (ND-AL). “Consumer protection should be about safety, not used as a veiled push to eliminate fossil fuels and the millions of jobs they support. Americans should decide if gas stoves are right for their families, not the Federal Government. I’m glad to see this commonsense bill to rein in the administration pass the House.” “The Biden Administration has waged a war on Americans’ gas stoves and consumer choice. I was proud to see my Save Our Gas Stoves Act to stop the Department of Energy’s out-of-touch rule that eliminates the majority of gas stoves on the market pass the U.S. House of Representatives,” said Vice Chair Debbie Lesko (AZ-08). “I am grateful for my colleagues’ support on this important legislation to save gas stoves and stop the Biden Administration’s extreme government overreach!” Read the full text of the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act here. These bills were passed with the support of the entire Western Caucus. |
